We have had such a blast with our 9 year old nephew visiting from Houston. He's truly fit in as one of the clan, and has been helpful and fun. We weren't positive he would have very much fun here, and I'm sure he was a little curious himself, but we ended up all having a great time. But it was a little like the city mouse visiting the country mouse in that our customs and traditions are a little bit different: Tonight at the birthday bash, he told us this story: the first day here, I told the kids I had just bought some Grasshoppers as a special snack treat. Jakson, who had never had the Keebler's snack cookie Grasshoppers (they're basically Girls Scouts thin mints, if you're wondering), thought it best not to be rude and say how disgusting that sounded, and then a few days later asked Ethan, "So where are those crickets that your mom bought for us to eat?" After Ethan explained to him what they were, they had a huge laugh, and when I heard this story tonight, I about died laughing. I think it's a perfect story to describe how Jakson's tried to be on his best behavior through our strange and mostly silly lifestyle. We are so delighted his parents let him visit, and we hope he stays with us again soon.
