Ethan and Elliot: Deep Thoughts

Ethan watched snippets of the Lamb of God video, a video of Jesus' life, during his primary class. He was visibly upset during the crucifixion, and then he and his classmates had deep spiritual conversation afterward. His teacher was trying to calm them all down and he said, "But how can I be calm? It happened, it really happened!" He then asked a question that took the teacher by surprise. "If marriage is so important to us in our church, then why didn't Jesus get married?"

Then a couple of days ago,
Elliot: Did it hurt to die on the cross?
Me: Yes, I think it really hurt.
Elliot: (immediately bursts into tears) I don't want it to hurt!
Me: It's not going to hurt you. You're not going to die on a cross.
Elliot: (panicked) Yes I will! I will if I want to be resurrected! We all will!
Me: No, no, Jesus died for all of us, so we all could be resurrected after we die, however we die.
Elliot: (long pause, sniffles) So it won't hurt?
Me: Nope.
Elliot: Oh. (another pause, then looks up at me) Why did He do such a nice thing?

Wow - those are deep thoughts! I love figuring out how there minds are working on all the information they inhale - they're amazing! Especially yours!

So, how did the teacher answer the last question? I would like to know in case it ever comes up around here.

The teacher is so awesome. She called me and told me about everything the next day, and she said, "This is how I answered it: there is nothing in the scriptures that says he was married." The end. She said if we want to discuss it with him further, we definitely should. If he wants to research ancient texts when he gets older, he can, but I'm glad she didn't fill him in on a bunch of "theories." She's an amazing teacher. And besides, our next couple of FHEs are definitely scheduled to be about death and resurrection.
