Happy Holidaze!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Love to you all and we hope you have a wonderful new year!

Cort – keeps working hard, got a promotion this year, still loves working on top secret government projects. Has been hard at work at home with handyman and yardwork duties and is getting quite good at it. You know the movie, the Constant Gardener? I think that was about him. Was pleased that we went to Disneyland, visited friends in California, visited the Grand Canyon, went to a family reunion in Montana (two reunions for both families), and did it all in the family van, all in 2010. No further trips or driving is on the agenda in the near future. Thank heavens!

Corey – kicked one of her nastiest addictions this year --- blogging (takes a 12 step program and daily prayer) but alas the fallout is having no idea what is going on with people she’s crazy about. Competed in a ½ marathon race on Thanksgiving – only took her 44 minutes! Her best time ever! Oh did I say ½ marathon? I meant a 5K. Unfortunately, running after children and running older children around is not such great training for running a race. However, she keeps at trying to handle it all and mostly keeps her sanity.

Ethan – (10) 5th grade – loves school and is learning to love the piano (because after 3 years he gets to take rockin’ guitar lessons). Is in Green Squad at school, which means he gets to pester other classes about recycling and using CFC bulbs and constantly berates his mother with statistics every time she uses a paper towel to clean up some disgusting thing off the floor. Is terrific training for adulthood when he will be a graduate student and an avid environmentalist. Will take up beloved baseball in the spring. He said he hopes to get 5 PhDs in different subjects. I pray for his future wife.

Elliot – (7) 1st grade -- Friend to some, admired by all, according to him. Loves school and having friends over. Is getting pretty amazing at drawing. Practices for hours each day. Plans to be an archaeologist just like Indiana Jones.

Claire – (4) Loves life. Loves her little sister. Loves (and is freakishly amazing) at the Gameboy, so loves when the brothers are at school. Loves all things girlie – Today at church, she stated to her dad: "These are the things I like. Princesses, fairies, ladybugs, and butterflies."

Charlotte (18 mos) Has pleasant but menacing demeanor. Gets into everything – life is seen as a great challenge as to how to unscrew, uncap, and unhinge (as in, her mother). If she isn’t doing something that could get her killed or me arrested – like running out the front door as often as possible and straight to the street as quickly as possible, she’s not content.

TOP FIVE QUOTES OF THE YEAR

5. 1/23: Pine Wood Derby -- Color guard: "The audience may rise." Elliot (in the back, in his lowest voice): "from the dead." (various fathers snickering around us)

4. 4/28: Today, we tried some role playing, to address Claire's fear of wind. Me (as Claire): I'm so scared of the wind... but do you think it can hurt me?" Claire (as Mom): "There, there. Don't be scared. Wind can't hurt you. But funder (thunder)... funder is the one you should be scared of. It will mess you up."

3. 4/29: Elliot: "Tomorrow I have to bring snack for class. Let's have pizza delivered." Me: "What?!" Elliot: "It's almost the end of the year, and I really want to wow them."

2. On the ride home from CA: Claire, watching the Heffalump movie: "I'm Lumpy, and Charlotte is Roo." Elliot (heard wrong): "No, you're rude. Charlotte's grumpy."

1. 9/1: Claire, upon my handing her slightly watered down apple juice: "You sure this isn't pee?" You're welcome. Ah, the rich blessings of being a stay at home mother.
